Out for a hike in the Hollenbeck area with fisnjack

With encouragement from fisnjack, who showed up at my place unexpectedly, I got out of the house and onto the hiking trails in the Hollenbeck Canyon area.

There were several new caches to be found. Gratefuldad, jahoadi and john, and Toby's Gang had been in the area recently and each of them had placed a cache or two. There were a couple of other caches P.T. and I missed getting to back on December 4 when we ran out of daylight. This was a great opportunity to find those caches, and get the new ones.

After the "Wrong Tree" cache, fisnjack and I took the "high road," which I am not sure is the "approved" way to get to the caches. In fact, we never made it to two of the caches that are on a lower trail that heads north out of the oak grove where the "Wrong Tree" cache is located.

Here is the route we took with the caches we missed highlighted at the top.

By the time we got to "The Landing Pad," a wonderful outcropping of California slick rock, my left knee was protesting. I had some aspirin with me, and taking that helped the pain for the remainder of the long hike.

From "The Landing Pad," the view was fantastic.

As we walked back through the canyon on our return trip to the vehicle, the backlit leaves of the sycamore trees in the canyon were strikingly beautiful. With the traveling I did this fall, I have enjoyed the change of seasons and fall colors for four months.

It was great to get out again, and since I missed two caches way back up there in the Wildlife Preserve, I will be heading out again as soon as the weather clears up.
