A little hike up Mt. McGinty on a hazy day

I needed to get out of the house, but since I have a borrowed vehicle right now, I didn't want to drive very far. Mt. McGinty hasn't been hiked for several months now, after that frenzy of activity back in January and February, so it was a good destination now that the temperature has finally moderated from over 100° down into the 80's. The hike up to the top of the peak gave me an opportunity to check on some of my caches.

One was missing, one had just been tossed into the bushes and was completely visible, another had fallen down from its perch on the embankment, and two others were fine. I relocated one cache since a couple of short Geotrails had developed going up the embankment to the Laural bush.

The huge Agave plant sent up another flowering stalk this year. This plant is near the remains of some sort of a foundation, so it might have been planted there many years ago by the original owner of the property.

Near the top, I took a picture of the pale Nolina plants that are endangered. There are patches of them on the mountain, but I don't see them in very many other places I hike around here.

It was a really nice day for the hike and it felt good to hike that hill—that used to be such a challenge for me—without too much effort.

Since the first time I hiked that peak some six years ago, I'm carrying a lot less weight, so that helps. Geocaching certainly has had its benefits.
